Northern EMS operates from its Headquarters in Windber, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. Northern EMS is a dynamic, diverse, and technically proficient service that covers an immediate response area of 203.34 square miles and provides Emergency Medical Service to an estimated population of 18,885 people based off census numbers from 2010, and 2015. This does not include the 113.63 Square Miles or the estimated population of 27,104 that Northern EMS provides back up coverage or Advanced Life Support services to.
Northern EMS is one of a few services in the region that require its employees to meet more than just the standard level of certification. Northern EMS requires that all employees have their Federal and State Clearances, International Trauma Life Support (ITLS), Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), National Incident Management Courses (NIMS), Hazardous Materials Operation Level, and Basic Vehicle Rescue Technician Certifications, in addition to the general requirements of an ALS or BLS Certification, CPR/First Aid/AED, ACLS/PALS, and Emergency Vehicle Operator. In doing so Northern EMS guarantees that you will receive the highest level of care possible by the most dynamic, professional and certified employees around. By providing such a high level of care, Northern EMS was recently able to obtain the Expert Level Certification through the Pediatric Voluntary Recognition Program (PVRP). Northern EMS is one of nineteen (19) agencies that are recognized at the expert level in the entire Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the only one (1) in the region (Cambria, Bedford, and Somerset Counties).
